MORI BUILDING DIGITAL ART MUSEUM TEAMLAB BORDERLESS
Team Lab offers digital artwork
An art collective, TeamLab is an interdisciplinary group of ultra-technologists whose collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, science, technology, design, and the natural world. Various specialists such as artists, programmers, engineers, computer graphics animators, mathematicians, and architects form TeamLab.
A 10,000 square-meter museum featuring their work opened in the summer of 2018. TeamLab’s unique concept involves the projection of each digital artwork onto the walls of the museum, where they are joined together interactively. Thus, the artworks communicate with each other.
The museum features “five worlds.” In “Borderless World,” multiple artworks blend with one another without boundaries. “Athletics Forest” has a range of works with an athletic component that visitors can participate in and experience for themselves. “Future Park” is an educational project. “Forest of Lamps” has a large number of lights with sensors, which react to the visitors’ movements. “EN Tea House” comprises a digital image of a flower blooming in a cup of tea. The museum uses a number of computers and projectors to set up these five worlds. The computer program depicts the work in real time and continues the transformation, along with responses to the visitors’ movements.
This magnificent art space offers an insight into split-second expressions of art. Visitors get to be a part of the work and mix with it. The museum offers experiences and surprises that they do not even know are waiting for them!
Closed on August 31st 2022. It will relocate to Toranomon Azabudai Project in 2023.
► Since some floors in the galleries have bumps and slopes,
comfortable footwear is highly recommended.
