THE TOKYO STATION HOTEL
Reknown novelists’ favorite hotel: Taste historic beef stew
The one and only hotel is in the Marunouchi Building of Tokyo Station, designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
The European style brick building was originally designed by Kingo Tatsuno in 1915 and was reopened after extensive renovations in 2012.
The guest rooms are decorated in an elegant European style to match the exterior.
This hotel is a favorite among writers, including Ranpo Edogawa, Yasunari Kawabata, and Seicho Matsumoto, whose novels prominently feature the hotel.
It is said that Matsumoto came up with the train trick of his mystery novel Points and Lines during his stay at this hotel. It would be fun to stay in the hotel while reading their novels. Also, do not forget to taste the famous beef stew, with a modern twist on the original recipe created in the Taisho-Era (1912-1926), in its bar and café, Camellia.
